Welcome to Year One

Each day, please send your child to school with:-

• A water bottle with your child’s name clearly labelled.
• A red West Park book bag as they fit perfectly in our trays, no rucksacks are allowed as space for oversized bags is very limited in our area.
• Please can you also ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child's name.

Useful Information

On Wednesday

RWI reading books, word list books and reading diaries need to be returned to school.

On Thursday

Pupils will return home with their RWI books, reading for enjoyment books and word list books. Some pupils may also have a reading journal to complete depending on their stage of reading development. Please try to practice reading and the word list activities at home as this will be hugely beneficial to your child’s reading progress. One to one reading time at home with parents/carers enables children to develop their reading skills more rapidly and reinforces the message to your child that reading is important.

On Friday

Please can pupils come dressed in PE kit on this day every week. Our PE kit consists of trainers, navy tracksuit and a white t-shirt.

Pupils will bring their learning maps home on a fortnightly basis. Pupils are asked to select, with their parents/carers, a skill that they have learned in class and choose an activity to complete at home that would enable them to develop that skill further. Pupils will have a week to complete their learning map activity before their books are to be returned to school so that they can share their learning with their classmates.
